The Division of Nephrology welcomes new faculty member Ignacio Portales-Castillo, MD, who joins us as Assistant Professor.
Dr. Portales-Castillo earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. After graduating, he spent a year providing medical care to a local community of over a thousand people as a family doctor in rural Mexico. Following a residency in internal medicine at Rochester General Hospital in New York (during which he received a Clinical Excellence Award), he went on to complete a nephrology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston. During this time, he also worked in the Endocrine Unit at MGH on research projects related to the parathyroid hormone receptor function.
A physician-scientist, Dr. Portales-Castillo will provide inpatient and outpatient nephrology consults at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and conduct research related to parathyroid hormone receptor function in the laboratory of Roberto Civitelli, MD, the Sydney M. and Stella H. Shoenberg Chair in Medicine and Chief of the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases.
