Kamalana K. Sambandam, MD, WU renal fellow class of 2008, was one of three winners of the inaugural 2015 ASN Innovations in Kidney Education Contest.
Kamal developed an interactive simulator of continuous renal replacement therapy which teaches users the concepts of initiation and prescription of CRRT. This case based-approach simulates multiple clinical cases and allows users to adjust parameters such as blood flow, ultrafiltration rate, type of anticoagulation, modality and others. The simulator can be downloaded. Dr. Sambandam is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Nephrology Fellowship Training Program and the University of Texas Southwestern.
