Dr. Ever Cipriano arrived from Guatemala this week for a six-week rotation through our division and clinics. He will be mentored by Dr. Marcos Rothstein.
During his visit, Dr. Cipriano will observe both outpatient clinic activities as well as receive interventional nephrology training from the Vascular Access Center. There is a lack of training in tunneled hemodialysis catheter insertion in Guatemala, and Dr. Cipriano hopes to bring this skill back to his home country when he returns. Since most hemodialysis patients are maintained on temporary catheters, there is a high infection rate. Dr. Cipriano will be poised to play an important role in improving outcomes for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in Guatemala.
