2023 Annual National Kidney Foundation Walk a Success!

Lauren Begnel, organizer and captain of #NephStrong WashU Walkers, helped raise $2043.

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) annual St. Louis Kidney Walk, held last Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Westport Plaza, was a resounding success!

Our team, the #NephStrong WashU Walkers, met their fundraising goal of $2000 – and more – by raising $2,043.  More than 38 people from the division participated in the walk and/or raised funds.

Lauren Begnel, RD, LD, a dietitian and nutritionist at our Chromalloy American Kidney Dialysis Center, was the organizer and captain of the WashU team.  “I want to send a very heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you who helped make our 2023 NKF Kidney Walk amazing!” she says.  “I appreciate everyone’s willingness to participate in fundraising, supporting our efforts, representing WashU Nephrology with our shirts, and showing up on Walk Day.  I was also very happy to include our inpatient Barnes Jewish Hospital dialysis team in our group, with help from Anitha Vijayan, MD.  You are all such a wonderful group to work with, and I’m so proud to be a part of this team!”

NKF Senior Development Manager Kourtney Ilbery says of this year’s walk, “At this time, we have raised $157,800 in St. Louis and had 1370 participants.  The support and growth we saw in the St. Louis Walk were outstanding.”  Last year, the walk raised $128,000 and had 850 participants.  “Thank you to our walk teams, sponsors, and volunteers for your incredible support. This would not have been possible without you!”

Thanks again, everyone!  Looking forward to St. Louis Kidney Walk 2024!
