Maheen Khan, MD, a recent graduate of our Nephrology Fellowship Program, will join the WashU Nephrology faculty as assistant professor on July 1, 2026.
Dr. Khan earned her medical degree from Dow Medical College, Pakistan. She served as a house officer at Dr. Ruth K Pfau Civil Hospital, the country’s busiest tertiary care public hospital, before completing her internal medicine residency at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, LA, where she graduated as chief resident. She completes her WashU Nephrology fellowship this month.
Throughout her diverse medical experience, Dr. Khan has become deeply committed to advocating for her patients:
I learned that patient advocacy doesn’t only have to be in policymaking forums or courtrooms; sometimes the biggest effect our words have is at the bedside.
The thing about using your voice is that it is like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger your inner confidence becomes.
Khan’s exceptional clinical skills, compassionate patient care, leadership, and professionalism were recognized when she was honored with the Knowlton Incentive for Excellence Awards at The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s 41st award presentation in 2025. She also represented WashU Nephrology at ASN Kidney Week 2025, where she and fellow second-year trainee, Dr. Nicole Shammas, presented a poster titled “Rare Case of C3 Glomerulopathy in Castleman Disease.”
In her downtime, Maheen enjoys reading fiction, traveling, and spending time with her family.
