Sanjay Jain, MD, PhD, Division of Nephrology, has accepted an invitation to serve as chairperson of the Kidney Molecular Biology and Genitourinary Organ Development (KMBD) Study Section, Center for Scientific Review, at the NIH.
Dr. Jain will serve for two years on the study section beginning July 01, 2017, and will be one of 16 members on the KMBD roster. Members are selected for the study sections based on their accomplishments and competence shown in their scientific disciplines.
“I am honored to be selected to chair the KMBD study section and work with leading scientists to help advance the mission of this study section,” says Jain, whose laboratory focuses on development and diseases of the urogenital and nervous systems. Dr. Jain is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology, an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Immunology, and is Director of the Washington University Kidney Translational Research Core.
The KMBD study section is part of the Digestive, Kidney and Urological Systems integrated review groups, and reviews grant applications involving the following topics:
- Basic and applied aspects of normal and abnormal renal physiology
- Cell biology
- Transport biology
- Hormone action and signal transduction
- Vascular biology
- Genetic disorders
- Cell-matrix interactions
- Biophysics, and bioenergetics
- Basic processes underlying upper and lower genitourinary organ development
The peer review process of grant applications is fundamental to the NIH grants process. For more information on NIH’s Center for Scientific Review, see here.
