Meet Tom Gowen, the New Nurse Manager at North County Dialysis Center

“Individual care with a big family vibe!”

That is how Tom Gowen, the new Nurse Manager of the North County Dialysis Center, sums up the Washington University dialysis facility that opened in North St. Louis County in early 2018.

Tom, who was a Staff Nurse at the center before recently being chosen Nurse Manager, has a wide range of experience for his new position.  Before receiving his Associates Degree in Nursing in 1995 from Florida State College, Tom spent four years in the Navy working as an avionics-aircraft electronics technician.  He is from a family that can boast three generations of Navy men; his father (Thomas, Sr.), himself (Thomas, Jr.) and son (Thomas “Trey”, III).  In addition, his daughter Sadie currently serves in the Army as a combat medic!

After obtaining his nursing degree, Tom went on to gain extensive experience in the areas of medicine/surgery, emergency and intensive care.  He has had over eight years of dialysis experience.

The North County Dialysis Center is a 16-station, in-center hemodialysis unit that has the capability for home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis training and support.  The center has a warm, inviting, open atmosphere with lots of windows in the treatment area, and the advantage of convenient parking.

Tom’s pride in the dialysis center and his devotion to the patients are evident.  “North County Dialysis is a great new facility.  The staff here are all so unique and caring for each patient.  We work on providing the best treatment possible.  We want to make the critically important dialysis treatment one of the most trouble-free events of the patient’s day.”

Outside of work Tom likes to “grow things and raise children.”  As testament to that, he has six children: Skye (26), Trey (24), Kiara (23), Sadie (22), Aubrey (4) and Leo (3).
