
Laura Dember, MD, Professor of Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, will deliver the second annual Aubrey R. Morrison Lectureship on March 18, 2025, 12 – 1 pm, McDonnell Medical Sciences Building, room 264. The title of her lecture is “The Evolving Landscape of Clinical Trials in Dialysis.”
Dr. Laura Dember is a leading researcher in chronic and end-stage kidney disease. She has spearheaded major clinical trials and cohort studies, such as the Dialysis Access Consortium trials, the Hemodialysis Fistula Maturation Study, and the THRiVE trial, all funded by the NIH. As Principal Investigator for the TiME trial, she led a groundbreaking effort enrolling over 7,000 participants in a pragmatic, cluster-randomized study.
Dr. Dember currently serves as Principal Investigator for multiple significant initiatives, including the NIDDK Hemodialysis Novel Therapies Consortium and the CRIC Study’s Data Coordinating Center. She co-leads the SMaRRT-HD Trial and supports innovation in kidney disease treatments through the Kidney Health Initiative. With numerous leadership roles, ranging from NIH HEAL Initiative projects to editorial duties at the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, she is dedicated to advancing nephrology research and mentoring future investigators. She also directs the Penn CCEB Certificate Program in Clinical Research.

Aubrey Morrison, MBBS, MACP, FASN, Emeritus Professor of Medicine, retired from WashU Nephrology in October 2020, having been at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for over 45 years.
