Paul Roberson Retires after 42 years at WashU Nephrology

Paul Roberson in relaxation mode!

After 42 years, 4 months, and 2 days, Paul Roberson is retiring from WashU Nephrology, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to the division.

“Paul is a dynamic manager who leads by doing,” says Max Edele, Director of Clinical Operations at WashU Nephrology.  “He is not afraid to get his hands dirty.  Paul is exceptional in that he is a manager who knows how to (and will do) anything he expects his team to complete. During his time here, Paul was instrumental in the creation of our biggest, most technologically advanced dialysis units.”

Paul began his career in our dialysis center working as a Special Procedures Attendant in reuse and supply management and then an equipment maintenance technician.  In 1994, he became the Chief Dialysis Maintenance Technician and was instrumental in the management of purchasing activities, dialysis machine and other equipment maintenance.  In 2020, Paul became our Manager of Biomed.

Max has had the opportunity to hear some of Paul’s more colorful reminiscences from years past.  “Paul has shared some enlightening stories with me that show glimpses into healthcare’s more ‘low-key’ past: i.e., going to the old Queenie Tower on break to get cocktails during work, staff and physicians smoking while dialyzing patients … sometimes leaving cigarette burn marks on the machines, and patients being served full lunches during their treatments!”  How times have changed!

The entire division stands with Max in saying, “Paul, you are an asset to our division in so many ways and while you will be missed, the lasting mark you’ve made on the division will never fade!”
