The National Kidney Foundation is honoring Eduardo Slatopolsky, MD, Professor Emeritus, Division of Nephrology, with the 2016 Award of Excellence at their 30th Annual NKF Gala, to be held November 12 at the Hilton Saint Louis at the Ballpark.
Dr. Slatopolsky’s contributions to the understanding of the pathophysiology of secondary hyperparathyroidism, hyperphosphatemia and vitamin D biology are recognized worldwide. He came to the Department of Internal Medicine as a post-doctoral trainee in the Renal Division in 1963. By 1967, he was director of the Chromalloy American Kidney Center, a position he held for the next 30 years. Dr. Slatopolsky has dedicated his career to the study of kidney disease and mineral metabolism and can boast of a half-century record of significant scientific achievements.
The annual gala is one of the NKF’s signature fundraising events in the St. Louis area. This year’s gala is themed “Baubles & Bubbles”. The event features a cocktail hour with entertainment, a silent auction, a balloon-pop raffle and presentation of the Award of Excellence to Dr. Slatopolsky and the Corporate Friend of the Foundation to Duke Manufacturing. Wrapping up the evening will be a live auction and dancing. The 2015 gala’s theme was The Speakeasy Soireé, where guests attended in Roaring 20’s-era attire.
The NKF is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to raising public awareness of the prevention and treatment of kidney disease, providing free local health screenings and support to kidney patients/donors and their families, educating healthcare professionals, and being an advocate in Washington D.C. for kidney patients.
