Clinical trials

In addition to comprehensive patient care, clinical trials under way at Washington University are focused on the identification and evaluation of safer and more effective therapies for lupus nephritis, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, membranous nephropathy, IgA nephropathy, amyloidosis, complement-mediated diseases, and ANCA-associated vasculitis. Patients are able to participate in these clinical trials while remaining under the care of their own nephrologist.

We are currently recruiting for the following studies:

  • Vibrant – a Lupus Nephritis study
  • Reboot – a Primary Membranous Nephropathy study
  • Alpestria-1 – an Alport syndrome study
  • ALPN-303 Povetacicept – an Autoimmune Kidney Diseases study
  • ACTION3 – efficacy and safety of DMX-200 in patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) who are receiving an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB)
  • Phase 2/3 – a study of VX-147 in subjects with APOL1-mediated proteinuric kidney disease

Future/Planned clinical studies:

  • AIS-D08 – a Phase 3 study of povetacicept in adults with immunoglobulin a nephropathy (RAINIER)
  • Efficacy and safety of iptacopan in patients with IC-MPGN
  • Efficacy and safety of rapcabtagene autoleucel in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus with active, refractory lupus nephritis (Clinical Trial Protocol Number CYTB323J12201)
  • NefXtend – Efficacy and safety of extended TARPEYO® treatment in adult patients with primary IgA nephropathy

Washington University Glomerular Disease Registry

This project aims to maintain a glomerular disease database to facilitate conduct of research in glomerular diseases. Our studies focus on natural history of disease, risk factors associated with development and progression of disease, phenotype and pathology characterization of various glomerular diseases and their association with kidney and patient outcomes, correlation between certain biomarkers with disease activity, treatment patterns/response rates, and side effects/complications of various therapies.
