The 4th Midwest Transplant & Nephrology Symposium, headed by Tarek Alhamad, MD, MS, medical director of transplant nephrology at Washington University, was a huge success.
“This was the most successful transplant symposiums to date,” says Dr. Alhamad. “We offered 10 travel grants to nephrology fellow from all around the US, and sponsored one fellow from Mexico, as well.” The event was held October 11-13, 2019, at the Institute of Public Health, St. Louis, MO.
The symposium was bigger this year, providing more workshops and speakers, and had more attendees.
The Midwest Transplant & Nephrology Symposium was the first transplant symposium in the U.S. to provide workshops in HLA, transplant pathology and ultrasound, along with transplant lectures. It was also unique in that actual transplant recipients and donors were there to share their experiences.
“With the excellent feedback that we heard from the attendees, we will soon start planning for the next one!” says Alhamad.
