Second-year WashU Nephrology fellow, Maheen Khan, MBBS, MD, was one of six resident physicians and fellows honored with the Knowlton Incentive for Excellence Awards at The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s 41st award presentation on November 24, 2025.
Presented annually, the Knowlton Award recognizes trainees at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine who exemplify exceptional clinical skill, compassionate patient care, leadership, and professionalism. Established to help train and celebrate the most promising internal medicine physicians in St. Louis, the program honors those who balance outstanding bedside care with a commitment to advancing the science of internal disease diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. More than 250 internal medicine staff physicians have been recognized since the Knowlton Incentive for Excellence Awards began.
The Knowlton Incentive for Excellence Fund was established in 1984 by St. Louis real estate developer and business leader Charles J. Cella to recognize and honor the extraordinary care given by his physician and friend, Norman Knowlton Jr., MD, Professor Emeritus of Clinical Medicine at WashU and BJH.
WashU Nephrology is proud to celebrate Dr. Khan as part of this long-standing tradition of excellence and for her embodiment of the “Knowlton Spirit.”
“I’m honored and thrilled to receive the Knowlton Award! The ‘Knowlton spirit’ in me has been greatly inspired by my mentors, teachers, and friends here at WashU who have been nothing short of phenomenal.”
