WashU Nephrology is delighted to announce the promotion of Seth Goldberg, MD, to professor of medicine on the clinician track, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Goldberg is a highly respected medical educator at WashU. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa and completed both his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship WashU. His long list of teaching awards reflects his exceptional skill and dedication as an educator.
Among his many honors are the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Knowlton Award for Internal Medicine (2009), the Division’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in Nephrology (2010, 2012), and the Distinguished Service Teaching Award (2011, 2015, 2018). He received the inaugural Nathan Hellman Teaching Award in 2018 and was again selected for the award in 2021 and 2024. That same year, Goldberg was named to the Academy of Educators inaugural Honor Roll for outstanding contributions to medical education.
Clinically, Goldberg directs the Multidisciplinary Kidney Stone Clinic, bringing together nephrology and urology expertise to offer patients a coordinated, single-point-of-care experience. He also serves as director of the Polycystic Kidney Disease Clinic and the Living Kidney Donor Program, roles that highlight his commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care.
After serving as associate program director of our Nephrology Fellowship Program for a decade, Goldberg was appointed director in 2023. As intended, he has continued to move the program on an upward trajectory, leading its growth and expanding training opportunities for the fellows.

His well-earned achievements reflect his dedication and exceptional contributions to our division. As WashU Nephrology Chief Benjamin Humphreys, MD, PhD, notes: “Dr. Goldberg’s many contributions are critical to the success of the division.”
Outside of work, Dr. Goldberg is known for his love of antique cars and is a familiar sight at fellowship graduation celebrations behind the wheel of his classic Model T–style vehicle.
