The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) annual Kidney Walk, involving over 5,500 teams, 85,000 individuals, at nearly 100 locations across the country this past Sunday, March 24, 2019, was a rousing success. Nationwide, the event raised over $136,000 (88%) of the goal of $155,000.
That, of course, was with the help of the Washington University nephrology team Wash Ur Kidneys, who participated in the St. Louis Kidney Walk held at Westport Plaza.
“We had over 55 walkers for the Wash Ur Kidneys team … and one dog!” says Jane Stromberg, a social worker in our division, who, with nephrologist Tingting Li were co-captains of the team again this year. “We are at $4,490 (89%) of our goal of $5,000 and donations are still coming in. We were one of the top four teams in St. Louis! I am so proud of our group.”
The Wash Ur Kidney group ranked eighth out of the top 20 fundraising teams in the nation. The co-captains send out a huge “thank you” to all who walked and donated.
“The Wash Ur Kidney team enjoyed the beautiful spring afternoon on Sunday,” says Stromberg. “It was great to see so many patients, families, healthcare providers and community supporters come together for kidney disease. Each patient and family has a story and to see so many show up and cheer each other on is very special.”
