Jeffrey Miner, PhD, Elected ASN Treasurer

Congratulations to Jeffrey H. Miner, PhD, FASN, Eduardo and Judith Slatopolsky Professor of Medicine in Nephrology, who was recently elected as Treasurer for the American Society of Nephrology (ASN). He will begin his term on January 1, 2024, and serve through December 31, 2027.

Dr. Miner is an international leader in basement membrane biology and the involvement of basement membranes in kidney function and disease.   He is an expert in research on Alport Syndrome, a genetic disease of the kidney glomerular basement membrane.  Research in the Miner laboratory combines the use of mouse models of the disease with state-of-the-art genetic and imaging approaches, and investigation of drugs as potential therapeutics.

Joining our Division in 1996, Miner has had continuous funding through the NIH, private foundations and industry since 1997.  He was President-elect of the American Society for Matrix Biology (ASMB) from 2019-2021 and is currently serving as President through 2023.  In 2019, he was awarded a Core Large Initiative grant by the Children’s Discovery Institute to fund the Pediatric Disease Mouse Models Core, which generates mouse models for pediatric disease research using state-of-the-art CRISPR/Cas9 technologies.  He is also the editor of the textbook Basement Membranes.

The annual ASN council election, held this past fall, additionally announced Samir M. Parikh, MD, FASN, as the newest ASN Executive Councilor and Daniel E. Weiner, MD, MS, FASN, as the newest At-Large Councilor.
