
WashU Nephrology is pleased to welcome Jeffrey Perl, MD, SM, FRCP(C), from the University of Toronto, for a special lecture on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 12–1 pm in the Chromalloy Conference Room (CAKC). He will present “Peritoneal Dialysis: Where Are We Going? Where Have We Been?” Lunch will be provided.
Dr. Perl is a staff nephrologist at St. Michael’s Hospital, Unity Health Toronto, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto. In 2025, he received the National Kidney Foundation’s J. Michael Lazarus Distinguished Award, which recognizes research that advances understanding of renal replacement therapy. He has also received the ASN Mid-Career Leadership Award, the John Maher Young Investigator Award from the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis, and multiple teaching awards from both the University of Toronto and St. Michael’s Hospital.
His clinical and research work focuses on improving outcomes and quality of life for patients undergoing home dialysis. Perl serves as editor-in-chief of Peritoneal Dialysis International and is the principal investigator for the International Peritoneal Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study (PDOPPS). He also co-led the Optimizing the Prevention of Peritoneal Dialysis-Associated Peritonitis in the United States (OPPUS) study.
In addition, Perl is a faculty member at Home Dialysis University, co-supervises the Home Dialysis Fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital, and co-chairs the American Society of Nephrology’s home dialysis steering committee.
