Taha Mohamed Djirdeh, MD, a recent graduate of our Nephrology Fellowship Program, joined our faculty as Assistant Professor on July 1, 2024.
Dr. Djirdeh earned his medical degree from the International American University College of Medicine in Saint Lucia and completed his residency at Mercy Health GME Javon Bea Hospital Rockford, IL, before entering our fellowship training program in 2022.
Living in six nations across three continents has endowed Djirdeh with remarkable adaptability that has helped him navigate and thrive in new, unfamiliar environments. “I grew up in countries where access to healthcare was relatively less available than here. This, I believe, has afforded me a humility in appreciating the severe stress that those who live in underserved communities may experience.”
The clinical aspect of medicine, especially patient interaction, is of utmost importance to Djirdeh. “I am committed to pursuing a career focused on clinical care.” His clinical interests include chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, cardiovascular conditions that overlap with renal conditions, and hypertension.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities during his fellowship training, Djirdeh participated in this year’s NephMadness competition . NephMadness is a month-long event hosted by AJKD Blog and modeled after the annual US college basketball tournament, March Madness, but with nephrology topics replacing basketball teams. Djirdeh authored one of the competing summaries for the Metabolic Acidosis nephrology bracket topic (see more here).
During his downtime, Taha enjoys staying active through sports and physical exercise, having been a member of the soccer and basketball teams in his early school years. He is an avid reader who stays informed about current events and has a keen interest in the humanities, particularly history, philosophy, and political science. Additionally, Taha is passionate about learning languages, having achieved basic level in French, Spanish, and Arabic.
