The American Society for Matrix Biology (ASMB) Workshop 2017 on Basement Membranes will be held July 12 – 14, 2017, at Vanderbilt Medical Center, Nashville, TN. Jeffrey Miner, Professor of Medicine, Division of Nephrology at Washington University, and Roy Zent, Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Medicine and member of the Division of Nephrology at Vanderbilt Medical Center, will jointly chair the workshop.
The ASMB/Vanderbilt Workshop is the only international forum for the dissemination of new ideas and information about the structure and biological functions of basement membranes (BMs). Sessions will cover known and novel BM components, potential clinical applications, and tissue regeneration within complex BM-organized three-dimensional systems.
“The importance of basement membranes for kidney development and function makes this Workshop of special interest to the nephrology community,” says Dr. Miner. The event will foster interactions and collaborations among basic research groups, clinical research groups, and pharmaceutical or biotechnology firms interested in BMs or extracellular matrix constituents, their receptors, or their signaling pathways.
Keynote speaker Kevin Campbell, University of Iowa, will discuss Mechanisms of Cell/Matrix Interactions in Skeletal Muscle. Invited speakers include the Chairs of the sessions listed below. Additional presentations will be chosen from submitted abstracts.
Workshop Abstract Topics/Sessions:
- New Tools for Studying Basement Membranes
Chair: Rachel Lennon, University of Manchester - Biophysics of Basement Membranes: Structure Matters
