Instructor of Medicine Hani Suleiman, MD, PhD, Division of Nephrology, and his research are highlighted in an interview recently published by NephCure Kidney International.
In 2014, Dr. Suleiman received a Young Investigator Award from NephCure Kidney International organization to study kidney podocyte cells using cutting-edge microscopy techniques.
In the in-depth interview with Lauren Eva, Dr. Suleiman discusses the progress of his research using super-resolution microscopy (STORM) to study various kidney diseases such as diabetic nephropathy, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), and minimal change disease.
Dr. Suleiman’s group was the first to adapt the new microscopy techniques to the kidney field. The innovative techniques were developed while he was working in the laboratory of his mentor, Dr. Andrew Shaw. Dr. Suleiman is continuing the work in the Division of Nephrology.
NephCure Kidney International is the only organization to exclusively support research seeking the cause, improving treatment and to find a cure for the potentially debilitating kidney diseases FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome.
