Dr. Leslie Gewin, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, WashU Nephrology.

Our lab is interested in understanding how renal injuries such as diabetes and hypertension lead to progressive destruction of kidney function and the need for renal replacement therapy.

We focus on understanding how growth factors, particularly the TGF-beta and Wnt/beta-catenin pathways, modulate the epithelial response to injury.

Recently, our research has expanded to investigate how changes in the cell cycle and metabolism of injured tubules contributes to loss of kidney function and development of fibrosis.  Our research is funded by the NIH and the VA.
