National Kidney Foundation Award of Excellence Presented to Benjamin Humphreys

WashU Nephrology Chief Receives NKF Award of Excellence

Benjamin Humphreys, MD, PhD, the Joseph Friedman Professor of Renal Disease and Chief of the Division of Nephrology at WashU Medicine, was honored with the 2024 National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Award of Excellence.  

An internationally acclaimed physician-scientist, Humphreys’ research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of kidney regeneration, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic strategies for kidney disease. 

The NKF is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to raising public awareness about kidney disease prevention and treatment. They offer free local health screenings, support for kidney patients, donors, and their families, education for healthcare professionals, and advocacy for kidney patients in Washington D.C.

This prestigious Award of Excellence recognizes healthcare professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of kidney disease. Dr. Humphreys was acknowledged for his dedication, innovation, and impact in advancing kidney health and patient care. 

The 2024 Award of Excellence Reception was held on November 7th, 2024, at the Sheraton Westport Chalet in St. Louis, MO.  Also honored at the ceremony: Keith & Cindi Guller, dedicated volunteers, NKF board member, board director/owner – Essex Industries; Thomas R. Pohlman, MD, Chief of Nephrology, St. Luke’s Hospital (and a WashU Nephrology alumnus); and Cody Wooley, BSN, RN, Program Living Donor Coordinator – SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital.
